Volleyball Goes 1-3 at Crimson Hawk Invitational

Indiana, Pa. - The Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team began their season with a 1-3 record this weekend at the ASICS Crimson Hawk Invitational hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania grabbing their first season win defeating Alderson Broaddus University.
 
On day one the Redhawks faced both Ursuline College and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In the first matchup Roberts Wesleyan played tough against Ursuline losing in four sets (25-27; 18-25; 25-20; 24-26). Senior Alexandre Tahauri, who returned to the court after spending last season on the sidelines with an ACL injury, led the team with 12 kills and 15 digs. Junior Elisabeth Rivera turned in a solid performance with 43 assists and 18 digs. Olivia Zureck led in the digs category with 24.  
 
In the second match the Redhawks struggled to find offense against the undefeated IUP Crimson Hawks, losing in three straight sets (9-25; 16-25; 21-25). Tahauri led with seven kills and nine digs.
 
"We are getting good play from several players," head coach Doug Poterfield said. "Everyone played their role today and that makes a great impact."
 
On the second day of the invitational Roberts Wesleyan faced off against West Liberty University and Alderson Broaddus University. Zureck continued her impressive play posting 30 digs against West Liberty. But the Redhawks would lose in three straight sets (23-25; 20-25; 22-25).
 
In the final game of the invitational Roberts Wesleyan (1-3) gutted out a hard fought comeback after conceding the first two sets, winning in the fifth set (27-29; 18-25; 26-24; 25-20; 15-13). Tahauri had 16 kills, three aces, and 25 digs, while Zureck added 36 digs.
 
The women's volleyball team will be back in action on Tuesday as they will play at The College at Brockport. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
