Lock Haven, Pa. - Battling inclement weather and a near 90 minute delay the Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team lost in overtime, 3-2 to Lock Haven University.
After a lengthy delay only six minutes into the match due to a storm passing through the area the Redhawks came out ready to strike as senior
Malcolm Shaw opened up the scoring in the 29
th minute off an assist from
Sam Moody.
Roberts Wesleyan (1-2-0) held the lead into the half without conceding a goal despite allowing Lock Haven to fire off ten shots. The Bald Eagles were led offensively by midfielder Troy Amspacher who got off 11 shots in the game with five on frame. Five of those 11 shots came in the first half.
The Redhawks wouldn't hold the lead long as Amspacher finally found the back of the net four minutes into the second half. But as Lock Haven's offense continued to pour on the pressure, Moody capitalized on a pass from senior,
Taiwo Aderounmu, chipping it past the keeper for a 2-1 lead in the 69
th minute.
Lock Haven's Amspacher had the answer as he scored his second goal of the game in the 80
th minute to bring the score even at two. Amspacher wasn't finished though as the teams headed into overtime, completing his hat trick only one minute into the extra period and giving the Bald Eagles the victory.
"It's certainly a disappointing loss," head coach
Scott Reber said. "We never got into our rhythm and just couldn't put it together unfortunately."
Starting goalkeeper,
John Ciavaglia made five saves in the net and Shaw led the Redhawk offense with five total shots and three on target.
Roberts Wesleyan will look to get back in the win column on Saturday when they face the College of Saint Rose in Albany at 5 p.m.
