Rochester, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team kept the game competitive but couldn't find a way to take a lead late as they lost to NYIT on Saturday afternoon 75-85.
Sophomore sharp-shooter
Quinn Carey led the Redhawks in points with 18 on 6-of-15 shooting with four three-pointers. Junior
Manny Joseph provided a double-double for Roberts with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the effort.
After playing catch up following an 11 point deficit midway through the first half the Redhawks kept the score tight for the majority of the contest in a back-and-forth style game. But they were only ever able to overtake the lead once as the Bears countered every run the Redhawks tried to make.
Heading into the second half down 34-33 the Redhawks took the lead off the first made basket of the half from a
Malik Dare layup. But a three-pointer by NYIT's Henrik Davidsen gave the lead back to the Bears and they wouldn't give up the lead again for the remainder of the game. Roberts Wesleyan was able to cut the lead to one point at the 12 minute mark and then again under the nine minute mark but the Bears were able to answer each time.
Roberts was 26-of-67 (38.8%) from the field but struggled from deep range hitting just 5-of-24 (20.8%). NYIT found success down low with six-foot-eight forward Jon Feiler who had 19 points and 17 rebounds. The Bears shot nearly 50 percent from the field on 33-of-67 shooting.
The Redhawks (2-12, 1-5 ECC) are scheduled to play again on Wednesday at 8 p.m. when they face off against Daemen in Amherst, N.Y.
