Men’s Basketball Falls to Adelphi

Rochester, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team fell to Adelphi University on Monday afternoon, 90-85.

The Redhawks found themselves up by ten points in the first half with 3:15 left on the clock, but the Panthers were able to cut that lead quickly and bring the score within two points heading into halftime, leaving the score 49-47 at the break. Roberts Wesleyan had a good first half shooting the ball going 19-of-40 (47.5%) from the field. Leading the way was sophomore guard Zack Panebianco who dropped in 11 first half points along with fellow sophomore Quinn Carey who also scored 11 points in the half, including three triples. Panebianco finished the game leading the Redhawks with 18 points.

Adelphi found their rhythm in the second half, hitting on over 51 percent of its shots. The visitors regained the lead with 17:18 remaining off a three-pointer from Jack Laffey who scored the game-high 23 points, including five makes from long-range.

A layup by Malik Dare put the Redhakws back on top with 16 minutes left in the half but they wouldn't hold that advantage long as Laffey's layup ten seconds later put the Panthers back in the driver's seat. Adelphi would go on to hold the lead until the 4:26 mark when a layup by freshman guard Isaiah Lewis gave Roberts a 79-78 lead, but again, Laffey answered with a three-pointer to put Adelphi back up for good. Lewis finished the game with 18 points.

The Redhawks took care of the basketball in the game with only nine turnovers compared to the Panther's 12. Roberts Wesleyan also out-rebounded the opponent 43-36 with junior forward Didier Antoine pulling down 14 rebounds.

The loss drops Roberts Wesleyan to 1-11 on the season. They will look to get back on the winning track on Wednesday when they host East Coast Conference opponent Mercy College at 8 p.m.
