ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore
Israela Groves' goal in the seventh minute of play was the difference in a 1-0 win for the Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer against Queens College on Saturday afternoon.
The game-winner came off a free kick taken by senior defender
Taylor Fletcher that found the head of Groves on the right side of the box. It was Groves' second goal of the season and Fletcher's first assist on the year.
Fletcher nearly added a goal of her own in the 75
th minute of the second half when her shot off a free kick 18 yards out hit the crossbar.
The Redhawks were able to fire off 17 shots in the game compared to 12 by the Knights. 10 of those shots were on target. Forward
Tiffany Melendez came off the bench to lead the team with three shots on goal.
The win marks the second of the season for Roberts. It's the first win since the season opener against Le Moyne. Next up for the Redhawks is Mercy College on October 21.
