ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team couldn't upset the No. 2 team in the East Coast Conference on Saturday, losing to Molloy in straight sets, 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-22).
The Redhawks looked to be off to a good start taking an 8-5 lead in the first set. But a kill by Emily Meyer and three straight attack errors gave the lead over to the Lions. Molloy would not relinquish that lead in the set going on to win 25-20.
After Molloy took control of the second set, 25-17, the Redhawks came out slow in the third getting behind 5-0. Following a timeout Roberts was able to gather their composure to score four straight points and bring the score within one point. The team was then able to build a 15-10 lead getting kills from four different Redhawks in that span. The Lions answered with a five point run of their own to tie the score at 15-all. Late in the set Roberts held the advantage at 22-21, but Molloy strung together four straight points to close out the set and get their fifth ECC victory of the season.
Senior outside hitter
Courtney Taylor led the team with nine kills and
Elisabeth Rivera led the assist category with 23.
Next up for Roberts is a tri-match scheduled for Tuesday in Painesville, Ohio against Lake Erie College and Notre Dame College (Ohio).
