Redhawks Fall to LIU Post, 3-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Redhawks' women's volleyball team was unable to upset the 15-3 LIU Post Pioneers on Saturday losing in straight sets, 3-0.

The Redhawks got off to a quick start in the first set, jumping out to an 8-2 lead. But an 8-1 run later in the set by the Pioneers got the host team back into the set which they would eventually take 25-20.

After dropping the second set 25-18, Roberts battled in a competitive third set looking to extend the match. A kill by junior Riley Moll tied the score up at 22-all, but LIU Post answered with three straight points to close out the set and win the match.

Offensively the Redhawks found success posting a better hitting percentage that the Pioneers overall for the match at .244. It was just the third time this season that Roberts has had a hitting percentage over .200. Leading the way was freshman Grace Detwiler with eight kills. Kristina Button totaled seven kills while senior Courtney Taylor had six kills in the match.

"We have upped our game over the last several weeks," said head coach Doug Porterfield. "Despite the loss, I really felt that our hitting was on point today."

Things don't get any easier for the Redhawks as they will take on NYIT on Sunday at noon. The Bears are currently 13-5 on the season.
