ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team came out strong in Friday's senior night game against East Coast Conference opponent NYIT, but the Redhawks couldn't pick up the win falling, 3-0 (24-26; 21-25; 16-25).
 
Roberts jumped to an early lead in the first set with an eight point run to take a quick 9-1 lead over the Bears. Sophomore Kortney Schaum added two aces during that run to spark the Redhawks. Roberts saw their lead extend to as many as nine points when they took a 17-8 lead. But the Bears clawed their way back into the set bringing their team within one point of the lead, 23-22. A kill by freshman middle hitter Emily Rowlison brought the Redhawks to set point, but NYIT closed the first set out with four straight points with kills from outside hitter Tiffany Verni and middle Kylee Kanealey.
 
Again in the second set the Redhawks took the early lead, 5-2 but that was the largest lead Roberts could hold. The lead was exchanged three times before the Bears took it for the final time in the set with the score 19-18. NYIT went on to score four straight points to take a 24-19 lead and a service error by the Redhawks handed NYIT their second set win.
 
In the third set the Redhawks struggled to get going allowing six straight points to the Bears to open up the set. NYIT would go on to win the set 25-16.
 
Senior Courtney Taylor led the Redhawks with eight kills while Elisabeth Rivera had 18 assists.
 
Roberts Wesleyan (2-27, 2-9 ECC) will play their final home game of the season on Saturday against the No. 2 team in the ECC, LIU Post (24-4, 8-2 ECC). The match is slated to begin at noon.
