Women's Lacrosse Unable to Finish Comeback Attempt at Wheeling Jesuit

Wheeling, W.Va. – Senior attacker Cassley Jackowski scored seven goals on Sunday for the women's lacrosse team, but it wasn't enough to defeat Wheeling Jesuit as the Redhawks were edged 11-10.

With 4:30 left in the game, a goal by Jessica Giancursio gave the Redhawks hope as they drew within two of the Cardinals making the score 9-11. Jackowski added another goal with 1:23 left on the clock to bring Roberts within one point of the lead. A Wheeling Jesuit turnover and groundball pickup by Maddi Chille gave Roberts one last chance on offense to tie the game at 11. Jackowski fired off a shot with 38 seconds left but Cardinal's goalkeeper Maire Austin came up with the save and a final shot attempt by Elizabeth Spada flew wide left.

The Cardinals opened up the game with three straight goals, but Jackowski wouldn't allow the host to continue building a lead as she answered with three straight unassisted goals herself. The Redhawks battled back-and-forth with the Cardinals, finding answers for any scoring streaks the home team had. The game's turning point came when Wheeling Jesuit was able to rally for four straight goals early on in the second half putting the Redhawks in a 6-10 deficit that was too much to make up for in the end result.

Starting goalkeeper, Shannon Knapp had nine saves in net for Roberts. Jackowski added one assist along with her seven goals.

Roberts Wesleyan (0-2) will host East Coast Conference opponent Molloy on Saturday, March  4 at 3 p.m.
