Women’s Basketball Surges Past Bridgeport in OT

Rochester, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team rallied from eight points down late in the fourth quarter to force overtime and eventually pull off a 92-89 win against the University of Bridgeport on Friday night.

Junior Brooke Fields scored the final eight points for the Redhawks to send the game into overtime. The guard hit two crucial back-to-back three-pointers late that kept Roberts alive. Down 77-72 with 38 seconds remaining Fields hit a three to pull within two points of the lead. The Redhawks quickly fouled on the inbound and sent Bridgeport to the line where they hit both free throw shots making the score 79-75 with under 30 seconds to play. Fields quickly dribbled down the court and pulled up from long range to hit another three, cutting the lead to one point at 79-78. After another quick foul upon the inbound Bridgeport could only hit on one of the two free throws leaving the Redhawks down just two points. Fields drive the floor and hit a layup to tie the score at 80 with 13 seconds left in the game. Both the Purple Knights and Roberts had a chance to win the game with a shot attempt but neither found the bottom of the net.

In overtime freshman Taya Andrews scored six of the team's 12 points to help the Redhawks get the edge of the Purple Knights. Roberts Wesleyan hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to maintain the lead and a defensive stand in the last seconds forced a three point miss by Bridgeport to give Roberts the 92-89 victory.

Fields was the game's leading scorer with 33 points on 11-of-20 (55%) shooting. Freshman Emily Miller added 19 points and four rebounds.

Bridgeport's Anastasia Williams came off the bench to record a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
