Women's Basketball Wins NCCAA Midwest Region Championship

Rochester, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team is headed to the National Christian College Athletic Association national tournament after defeating Ohio Christian University 68-61 on Saturday afternoon.
 
The win over the Trailblazers named the Redhawks the NCCAA Midwest Region Champions. The team will look to defend its National Championship title from last year when they begin play in this year's tournament on March 15 at Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind.
 
Freshman guard Sara Nady led the team with 18 points, seven assists and three rebounds. Fellow freshman Emily Miller posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Buffalo, N.Y. native also had four blocks.
 
The Redhakws built a 17 point lead with 5:32 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Trailblazers found their way back into the game forcing five Roberts' turnovers and cutting the lead to just three points with 1:38 remaining. The Redhawks defense stood strong to finish out the game not allowing Ohio Christian to score.
 
Ohio Christian was led by Erinn Bailey who had 23 points and 13 rebounds.
 
Roberts Wesleyan shot over 40-percent from the field going 22-of-53 in the game.
 
Lucy Covley hit two three pointers in the game to give her 97 made threes on the season which ties the East Coast Conference single-season record.
 
The Redhawks will wait to see who they will face in the opening round of the national tournament on Wednesday.
