Women’s Lacrosse Headed to ECC Championships with win Over Bridgeport

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's lacrosse team is headed to the East Coast Conference Championships after winning an overtime thriller against the University of Bridgeport in the final game of the regular season, 10-9.

Junior Johannah Price collected a long, high crossing pass from senior Cassley Jackowski and scored just 30 seconds into the extra period to give the Redhawks the win and the ticket into the conference tournament. This marks the first time in program history that the women's lacrosse team has earned a berth in the ECC Championships.

Jackowski led the Redhawks with six total points on three goals and three assists. Price added three goals of her own. Megan Burnham and Emily Knight both scored twice.

The first half saw a back-and-forth battle between the teams leaving the score tied at six at the half. Roberts came out in the second half scoring three straight goals to take a 9-6 advantage. The Purple Knights answered with three goals of their own to tie the game. The tying goal came with just six seconds remaining in the game.

Senior goalkeeper Shannon Knapp kept the Redhawks in the game making 15 total saves, many of those coming in crucial situations late in the contest. Knapp also surpassed the 500 career saves mark during the game.

Roberts improve to 7-10 on the season and 4-4 in the ECC. They will hold the No. 4 seed in the conference championships and will take on top seeded LIU Post on May 4th.
