BRIDGEPORT, CONN. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer team opened East Coast Conference play on Saturday evening at Bridgeport losing 1-0.

The Purple Knights scored the game winner in the 21
st minute of the first half. Maegen Doyle finished a crossed ball from Sara Berglund.

The Redhawks didn't produce much on offense getting off only four shots with two on goal in total for the game. One of the best opportunities for Roberts came early in the second half when a corner kick led to a shot on goal by sophomore
Maya Rutland. The second shot on goal came in the 75
th minute when
Dejah Cooper's header was saved by Bridgeport keeper Jennifer Wendelius.
"Bridgeport is a tough opening conference match on the road," said head coach
Sarah McClellan. "We know we did some things well that we can build on. We need to bounce back this week."

The Redhawks will be back in action on Wednesday as they take on Edinboro University. The game is slated for 6 p.m. The team will be back at home on Saturday for homecoming weekend with a game against Molloy. Kick-off is at 1 p.m.
