Volleyball Competes at Urbana Fall Invite

URBANA, Ohio – The Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team was unable to pick up a win at the Urbana Invite hosted by Urbana University.

The Redhawks faced off against Urbana University, Lindenwood, Gannon University and California (Pa.). Roberts fell in straight sets in each of the four matches.

Roberts struggled to get going early on in the matches with points coming at a premium for the team. The Redhawks got most of their production in the third set of each match scoring 20-plus points in the set in three of the four matches. The closest set came in a Friday evening match against Lindenwood where the Redhawks pushed the Lions to a 26-24 score in the final set loss. Playing from an early 12-5 deficit, Roberts fought back to take a 22-19 lead after scoring six straight points. The team got to set point at 24-23 but were unable to close it out as the Lions scored three straight to win the match.

Senior outside hitter Coutney Taylor led the team with 19 kills over the four game stretch. Taylor leads the team with 78 kills on the season.

Freshman setter Nikki Simmonds had a career high 15 assists in the match against Lindenwood. She finished with 35 assists over the weekend. Senior Elisabeth Rivera was the leading assist member for the weekend totaling 51.
