ROCHESTER, N.Y. – It was a battle for third place in the East Coast Conference standings on Friday night in the Voller Athletic Center as the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team faced off against NYIT. Heading into the game both teams boasted the same 10-5 (4-1 ECC) records. In the end it was the Redhawks who ended up on top, 79-70.
The win moved the Redhawks to 11-5 overall and 5-1 in the ECC while a loss for the Bears puts the team at 10-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference. Saint Thomas Aquinas and LIU Post claim the top two spots in the standings with undefeated 6-0 conference marks.
Emily Miller posted her ninth double-double of the season scoring 18 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Taylor Bynoe added 15 points and seven rebounds in her first game back since suffering an injury three games ago. And senior
Necedah James totaled 13 points and four assists. James eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for her career after scoring her third point in the contest.
The Redhawks used a 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter to take a 72-56 lead while also chewing up nearly five minutes in the quarter. NYIT's Nina Vukosavljevic tried to get her team back into the game with three point shooting but the Bears couldn't find a way to slow down the Redhawks offense. Vukosavljevic scored 18 points and dished out seven assists.
On Sunday the Redhawks will host LIU Post and will have a chance to move up to the No. 2 spot in the ECC with a win. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
