ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Queens College, the No.1 team in both the East Coast Conference and the East Region had little trouble defeating a scrappy Redhawks' women's team 7-0 in a match played on the RWC courts on Friday afternoon.
"We fought hard but this is a seasoned, experienced, well coached team with national tournament play under their belt," said head coach
Tom Linhart. "They are solid and they exposed some of our weaknesses. We played well in singles and all the matches were well contested."
The closest matches were at 1
st and 3
rd singles. Senior
Nthabi Mogopodi lost a 6-4, 6-4 match at 1st singles to Reehan Rashad, and senior
Marousia Bosch was defeated 6-3,7-6(5) at 3
rd singles by Marisa Ostoja.
"Tabi and Moo have played quality tennis the last two matches and have shown good leadership," said Linhart.
The 7-6 Redhawks host Molloy College in a key ECC match Saturday at 5 pm at Midtown Athletic Club. If the Redhawks win, they will qualify for the ECC Championship tournament in New York City next weekend.
