ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After a hard fought fourth quarter, the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team wasn't able to pull off the win as they lost 57-51 against Assumption College on Friday night at the Voller Athletic Center in their home debut.
The Redhawks struggled offensively only shooting 31% from the field going 19-of-61 and going 3-of-18 (16.7%) from three-point territory. The Greyhounds of Assumption College went 18-of-61 (30%) from the field and 3-for-26 (12%) on three pointers. However, the Redhawks would end up shooting 83% from the free-throw line, aiding to their comeback late in the fourth quarter.
Junior
Emily Miller led the charge for the Redhawks as she scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds on the night. The Buffalo, N.Y. native also came away with two steals, two blocks, and went 10-10 at the free throw line.
The Redhawks' largest lead came right at the beginning of the game as they went on an 8-0 run with 7:27 left in the first quarter. The Greyhounds' largest lead came in the third quarter as they were up 11 to the Redhawks with 8:50 left on the clock.
It wasn't until the middle of the fourth quarter where the Redhawks were able to squash a 10-point deficit coming back within three points with 1:10 left on the clock. The late rally can be attributed to the perfect free throw performance by Miller and a late rebound in the paint by freshman
Taryn Wilson. However, the final buzzer would sound and Assumption would go on to win their first game in a three-game road trip.
