ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In their fifth game of the season, the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team defeated Mansfield University at home on Tuesday night.
The Redhawks ended the night by going 30-for-66 (46%) from the field, 5-of-13 (39%) from three-point range. The Mounties didn't fare as well as the Redhawks, going 22-of-55 (40%) from the field and only making five of their nineteen attempts from the three-point line.
Four different Redhawks had double-digits in points as freshman center
Dimitra Gkizani led the charge. The Athens, Greece native ended the night with a double-double recording 12 points and adding 10 rebounds. Juniors
Tashayla Sutorius and
Emily Miller both scored 16 points. Sutorius also added one steal, two rebounds, and seven assists. Miller had nine rebounds, two assists, and one steal to cap off her evening's performance.
The Redhawks were able to turn it on early, going on a 13-point run to end the half. The largest lead for Roberts came in the third quarter as the Redhawks made an effort to peel away from the Mounties. With 3:29 left in the quarter, Roberts would lead by an impressive 28 points.
Going into the fourth quarter, the Mounties put up a fight to try and get back into the game. Eventually cutting the Redhawks' lead to 17 late in the quarter, the Mounties were no match for the home side as Roberts closed out the game capitalizing on drawn fouls for free throws. The final score of the game would be 77-57.
Next up for the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team is an upcoming home matchup against Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, December 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 PM.
