Women's Basketball Tops Daemen In Thruway Rivalry Game

AMHERST, N.Y. – A 21-point outburst from Taya Andrews helped the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team take down thruway rival Daemen for the second time this season, 76-62.

The difference in the game was a late second quarter run that allowed the Redhawks to take an 11 point lead into the half. The 10-3 run with under 2:30 left in the first half gave Roberts a 42-31 lead at the break. Sophomore Sara Nady nailed a three pointer and dished out two assists in that span. The guard finished the game with 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

The Redhawks shot an impressive 56-percent from the field in the first half going 17 of 30. Daemen was 14 of 36 (38.9%) from the field.

In the second half Roberts built a 17 point lead and never let the Wildcats back into the game. The closest Daemen drew was within nine points of lead in the fourth quarter, but the Redhawks offense was too much for the Wildcats to handle.

Emily Miller finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. Necedah James added 10 points and five assists.

The Redhawks are now 17-7 on the season and will host its final two home games of the season over the weekend. On Friday Roberts will play Queens College at 6 p.m. and on Saturday the Redhawks will face off against Molloy at 2 p.m. for the senior day game.
