ROCHESTER, N.Y. – It was not the ending the Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team wanted to see for their senior day game as a buzzer beater gave the Molloy Lions an 80-78 victory over the Redhawks on Saturday afternoon.
Molloy sophomore Nick Corbett raced down the court with just three seconds on the clock to toss up a floater from the free throw line that beat the clock and handed Roberts its fifth straight loss. Corbett was the key player for the Lions as the guard had 29 total points.
The Redhawks looked to be down and out in the second half after Molloy built a 14 point lead and Roberts couldn't seem to hit a shot. But in the final seven minutes of play the Redhawks began to cut the lead and found themselves down just two points with under a minute to play. A three pointer by freshman
Gintaras Bartaskas made the score 78-76 with 17 seconds remaining. Molloy missed a pair of free throws after a Roberts intentional foul leading to
Michael Bush's game tying layup with three seconds on the clock. But it was the Lions with the final say to pick up their seventh win of the season.
Brad Williams led the Redhawks with 16 points. The senior added four rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Junior
Jean Toussaint posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Redhawks will have two crucial games to finish out the season on the road. On Friday the team takes on NYIT and then will close the regular season out at LIU Post. Currently the Redhawks sit in fifth place in the East Coast Conference with a 7-9 conference recrod, just a game ahead of both Queens and Molloy who hold a 6-10 mark.
