ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan men's tennis team came from behind Sunday to defeat a tough, well coached RIT Tiger team, 6-3.
Â
"This was a very competitive tennis match," said head coach
Tom Linhart. "RIT came out of the gate strong in doubles, took us out of our rhythm and game plan, and never let us regain the edge. They did to us what we try to do to our opponents."
Â
The Redhawks managed only a point at first doubles, where senior
Hugo Ball-Greene and
Jose Carrillo defeated Jared Ingoglia and Roger Peckham, 8-3.
Â
Trailing 2-1 after doubles, the Redhawks tied the match when freshman
Guido Janssen beat Peckham 6-3, 6-0 at third singles. The Tigers jumped back out into the lead when Ben Lynaugh won in straight sets at second singles. From there on in it was all Redhawks.  Ball-Greene evened the match with a win over Ingoglia at first singles. Sophomore
Dennis Barlotta put the Redhawks ahead to stay with a three setter at fourth singles. Freshman
Harmeet Luthra clinched the match for the Redhawks with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Nick Lim at fifth singles. Sophomore Matt Cruz closed out the match with a straight set win over freshman Jacob Myerson at sixth singles.
Â
