Men's Basketball Falls to Daemen in First Round of ECC Championships

AMHERST, N.Y. – The No.6 Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team had its season come to a close on Wednesday night following a 75-69 loss to No.3 Daemen College in the first round of the East Coast Conference Championships.

Isaiah Lewis led the Redhawks with 20 points while senior Manny Joseph finished with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Daemen controlled the lead for the majority of the first half and was able to build a nine point advantage at the midway point of the half, but the Redhawks closed the half strong and took the lead with 1:18 to go after a dunk by Gintaras Bartaskas. In the last five minutes of the first half Bartaskas scored eight points. The Wildcats came up with the final basket of the half to carry a 35-34 lead into the break.

The Wildcats never gave up the lead in the second half despite the Redhawks closing the gap on several occasions. Daemen took a 10 point lead, its largest of the night with 5:02 left in the game. Roberts cut that lead to four points after Lewis' layup with 1:19 to go, but the Wildcats answered with two made free throws and a dunk by freshman Andrew Sischo to close the game out.

Daemen had four players in double digits with Jay Sarkis leading the way with 18 points.

Roberts Wesleyan (14-14) struggled in the final stretch of the season dropping its final eight games, but was still able to earn its first berth in the ECC Championships.
