WASHINGTON, D.C. – Turnovers and missed free throws proved costly for the Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team as they fell to the University of the District of Columbia on Friday night, 81-72.
The Redhawks committed 22 turnovers leading to 29 points for the Firebirds. From the free throw line the Redhawks missed 10 shots going 15-of-25 (60%). UDC had 14 turnovers and was 20-of-26 (76.9%) from the charity stripe.
The Firebirds held a 41—30 lead at the halftime break but the Redhawks were able to tie the score in the second half at 56-56 with 9:08 remaining. The Redhawks were never able to overtake the lead in the second half. With 1:59 left in the game a free throw by
Brad Williams cut the deficit to two points but UDC went 9-of-10 from the line down the stretch to seal the game and pick up just their third East Coast Conference win of the season.
Jean Toussaint led Roberts with 15 points and nine rebounds.
The Redhawks will face St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday at 3 p.m.
