Maxwell's Overtime Goal Lifts Redhawks Over Gannon

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – It was a cold and snowy afternoon for the women's lacrosse matchup against Gannon on Thursday, but the Redhawks and Golden Knights quickly heated things up with an offensive shootout that saw the Redhawks come away with a 17-16 overtime victory.

Alyssa Maxwell delivered the game winning goal for Roberts with 49 second remaining in the first overtime period. The freshman finished with two goals and five groundballs in the game.

The Redhawks jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead to open the game, but the Golden Knights fought their way back and tied things up at 5-5 midway through the first half. Roberts was able to close the first half strong with two goals in the final 45 seconds of play and then opened the second half with a goal to take a 12-7 advantage. But again, Gannon found its way back and took the lead, 14-13 with 12:12 remaining. The visitors scored the final goal of regulation with 1:26 left to knot the game up at 16-all. But it was the Redhawks who closed the game out following an important save by goalkeeper Victoria Greco which led to the game-winner for Roberts. Greco made 10 saves on the day.
