ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's lacrosse team fell to out-of-conference opponent Bloomsburg University on Wednesday 14-13 after two hard-fought overtime periods.
The Redhawks got on the board early in the game with a goal by sophomore
Jessica Giancursio in the 28
th minute. The early lead was countered by six consecutive goals by Bloomsburg. The Redhawks headed into the half trailing 7-4, but came out strong in the second half. They were leading the Huskies 13-9 with five minutes left in the game when Bloomsburg scored four goals to send the game into overtime.
The first overtime ended scoreless, sending the game into a second overtime. Bloomsburg's Grace Kelleher proved to be the demise of the Redhawks, scoring her fifth goal in the last minute of the second overtime.
Roberts Wesleyan's
Emily Tomei and
Taylor Nathan finished the game with three goals apiece, along with four other Redhawks netting goals in the game. Tomei also picked up four groundballs and secured four draw-controls.
The Redhawks moved to 5-3 overall this season. They face ECC-rival Saint Thomas Aquinas College at home this Saturday at 12 pm.
