BUCKHANNON, W.Va. / FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's tennis team headed to West Virginia over the weekend for matches against two of the top five Atlantic Region teams. The Redhawks faced No. 2 ranked West Virginia Wesleyan falling 9-0 and also took on No. 5 Fairmount State University where they lost 8-1.
Despite dropping each match to the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan,
Guido Janssen played a tough match in the No. 2 singles spot against Maycon Santos Diaz. The freshman won the first set 6-4 but lost the next two 6-4 and then in a 10-5 tiebreaker set.
Against Fairmount State the Redhawks were able to pick up one win in the No.3 doubles slot.
Jose Carrillo and Janssen upset Joao Martins and Bradley Schug in a very close 9-8 match. It was the only match win of the weekend for Roberts.
The Redhawks are now 4-4 on the season and will take on Edinboro University of Pennsylvania on March 6.
