Men's Tennis Unable to Close Out Match Against Kutztown

Rochester, N.Y. – Freshman Guido Janssen was the only double winner for the Roberts Wesleyan men's tennis team on Sunday, when they lost to Kutztown University, 6-3.

Janssen came up victorious in No. 1 doubles, where he paired with senior captain Hugo Ball-Greene to sweep Kutztown 8-0 and give the Redhawks their first point of the match.  In No. 2 singles, Janssen defeated his opponent 6-2 in both sets to tally the second point for Roberts.  Ball-Greene put up a very hard-fought match in No. 3 singles, taking the match to three sets, but fell short 11-9 in the last one.

Four of the six singles matches were taken to three sets.  At No. 4 singles, sophomore Dennis Barlotta won with scores of 6-4, 4-6, and 10-8.  Jose Carillo, Harmeet Luthra, and Ball-Greene were the other Redhawks to play to three.

Kutztown University kept their streak in doubles and singles, winning both overall 2-1 and 4-2.

"This was another match where we had the lead but could not hold it," said head coach Tom Linhart. "We were up in all three doubles but could only win at first. In singles we had four matches go to third set tiebreakers and could only win one. Closing matches has been an issue for us all spring and we will continue to work hard to improve this stat."

The loss puts the men's tennis team at 4-14 on the season.  The Redhawks return Saturday to host conference opponent University of the District of Columbia.
