FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's lacrosse team outscored East Coast Conference opponent Queens College 10-4 in the second half of Sunday's game to help claim their eighth win of the season with a 15-8 victory.
The offense was led by freshmen
Taylor Nathan and
Emily Tomei who had five goals and four goals respectively. Tomei also added one assist, one ground ball and three caused turnovers.
The teams played evenly matched in the first half and at the halftime break the Redhawks held on to a 5-4 lead.
Queens was able to notch the first goal of the second half to tie the game at 5-5, but Roberts took control from there scoring three straight goals with Nathan and Tomei each netting one and sophomore
Jessica Giancursio getting the third goal of the stretch. Senior
Maddi Chille dished out two assists as well.
To close the game out the Redhawks scored the final four goals with senior
Mackenzie Kidder picking up two.
Despite many of the statistical categories being nearly identical for both teams in the final box score it was the Redhawks who controlled the draw controls to help set the tempo of the game. Roberts doubled the Knights up on successful draw controls 16-8.
Victoria Greco made 16 saves in net while Jessica Serpe made 11 saves for Queens.
Roberts will take on Mercy at home on Saturday at noon. Currently the Redhawks sit in fourth place in the ECC standings. This season the top six teams will make post-season play compared the only four teams making it in previous years. If the Redhawks remain in fourth place they would host a first round playoff game.
