Rochester, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's lacrosse team were defeated by top conference opponent Mercy College this afternoon, 21-8.
Coming off of a recent conference win against Queens College, the Redhawks faced off against the Mavericks in the Headstrong Lymphoma Cancer Awareness game. The Redhawks were the first to get on the board with a goal by sophomore
Jessica Giancursio, who finished the game with three goals. The teams played evenly until about halfway through the first half, when the Mavericks began to take off. The Redhawks scored the six of their eight goals in the first half, but Mercy had an extremely high-scoring first half with fourteen goals. In the second half, the Redhawks were outscored 7-2. Draw controls and shots on goal proved to be the downfall for Roberts, where Mercy had the edge in both categories, 26-3 and 35-16.

Emily Tomei were the leading scorers for the Redhawks, tallying three goals each.
Megan Burnham and
Mackenzie Kidder were the other two players to net goals for Roberts. Senior midfielder
Maddi Chille and Junior attacker
Emily Knight each contributed two assists for the Redhawks as well.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Victoria Greco had fourteen saves for the game compared to Mercy's six.
This loss puts the Redhawks at 8-7 on the season and 3-4 in conference play. The women's lacrosse team returns to the turf field tomorrow to host Chestnut Hill College at 12 pm for Senior Day.
