ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – In a battle for the No. 4 seed in the East Coast Conference Championships the Roberts Wesleyan women's lacrosse team faced off against Molloy College on the road, but it was the Lions who came out on top 16-12 to earn the higher seed and host a first round playoff game on Tuesday.
The Redhawks who had already clinched a spot in the ECC Championships for the second straight year and second time in program history will be the No. 5 seed in the tournament and will play No. 4 Molloy again on Tuesday, May 1 at 7 p.m.
Johannah Price led Roberts with four goals and one assist while
Emily Knight added three goals and three assists.
It was a low scoring first half with the score knotted up at the break 4-4. Molloy closed the first half with two straight goals and then opened the second half with two more goals.
With the Redhawks trailing the entire second half the team looked to make a run after back-to-back goals from Price and
Taylor Nathan to bring the score to 11-9. But the Lions answered with three goals to extend their lead to five goals. Roberts couldn't muster up enough offense in the final five minutes to complete a comeback.
Victoria Greco made 17 saves in net for the Redhawks.
No. 5 Roberts will face No. 4 Molloy on Tuesday in Rockville Centre, N.Y. at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the ECC Network.
