BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's lacrosse team fell just short on Sunday losing to the University of Bridgeport, 17-16 at Knights Field.

The Redhawks took control of the game from the first whistle jumping out to a 5-0 lead nine minutes into the game. Junior Emily Knight scored three straight goals in that stretch. Knight finished with seven goals and one assist.  Two minutes later the Redhawks added two additional goals to take a 7-1 advantage, their largest lead of the contest.

The Purple Knights answered with a furry of goals, scoring seven straight to take a one goal lead with 7:06 remaining in the first half. But Roberts finished the first half on a strong note with four goals to head into the second half with an 11-8 lead.

For the majority of the second half Roberts maintained control of the lead despite Bridgeport scoring the first two goals. With 8:49 left in the game the Purple Knights tied things up at 13-13. Johannah Price answered just 20 seconds later to keep Roberts in front by a goal. Starting at the 7:09 mark Bridgeport went on a four goal run to take a 17-14 lead.

The Redhawks rallied in the final few minutes of play with two goals to bring the score within one, but time would expire before Roberts could tie the game up.
