Men's Soccer Falls Short At Walsh

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team came up short in a tough road match against the Walsh University Cavaliers on Saturday, 3-1.  The first half proved to be an offensive battle between both teams with all four goals being scored within the first 32 minutes of the game.

The Cavaliers were first on the board with a goal by Dwight Van Dyke in the 13th minute.  This goal was a rebound from a saved penalty kick by sophomore goalkeeper Joe McNulty, who was unable to save the second shot attempt.  Walsh did not waste any time in netting their second goal of the game in the 14th minute with a penalty kick by Myles Cornwall.

Freshman forward Alex Perez Vega answered in the 23rd minute with his first goal of the season and his career, assisted by senior midfielder Daniel Maxwell.  This was Maxwell's second assist of the season.  As Roberts continued their fight in the first half, Walsh's Van Dyke netted his second goal of the game in the 31st minute assisted by Dan Kenner.  This goal capped the scoring for the game.

The second half of play was possessed by the Redhawks, who had six shots compared to Walsh's zero, but Roberts was unable to find the back of the net.

The loss puts the Redhawks at 1-1 early on in their season.  The team returns to the pitch on Wednesday, September 5th against Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.  Game-time is set at 3 p.m.
