Men’s Soccer Takes Down Chestnut Hill

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team scored three goals in a 12-minute span of the first half to help contribute to their 4-1 victory against Chestnut Hill College on Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman midfielder Dylan Ruiz opened up the scoring for the Redhawks in the 13thminute when he received a long serve from junior Karl McNulty, shooting it past the opposing goalkeeper and into the lower corner of net. Ruiz went on to score again moments later, in the 19thminute, when he found his own rebound and placed the ball into the Chestnut Hill goal. The next opportunity for the Redhawks came in the 25thminute when sophomore Johanz Tusiime chipped the ball inside the box and finding the feet of junior defenseman Elijah Jarvis, who would one touch into the Griffin net.

The Griffins would found an opportunity to get back into the game in the 37thminute when the Redhawks awarded them a penalty kick after a foul inside the box. The Chestnut Hill attacker was successful in his penalty attempt, making the score line 3-1 at the end of the first half.

Roberts would close out the game with one more goal in the 85thminute when junior Dan Reger chipped the ball into the box from the right flank. Midfielder Trevon Michael was able to head the ball on goal making the final score 4-1.

Both teams each had 21 shots and 10 total shots on goal. Dylan Ruiz's two goals give him a season total of five so far this season, tying with co-leader Terrell Spencer. Also, goalkeeper Ben Hastings played the entire game and had nine saves.

The next game for the Redhawks men's soccer team comes this weekend at Homecoming. They will face LIU Post (5-2-0, 2-1-0 ECC) on Saturday, September 29 and kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
