ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team lost 1-0 in a double overtime bout against the nationally ranked No. 15 LIU Post at homecoming Saturday night.
The first half proved to be a battle in the opposite end of the field for the Redhawks. However, Roberts held the Pioneers to only five shots in the first period of play. The second half of the game was kicked off right away with a penalty kick opportunity for LIU Post as the Redhawks committed a foul inside the box. One of the highlights of the game was goalkeeper
Ben Hastings' immaculate save to keep the game all squared up and deny the penalty attempt.
Fast forward to the second overtime period, Roberts and LIU Post traded shots and fouls. It wasn't until late in the second overtime period where the Pioneers would score and seal up their victory. The 110
thminute goal came off of a rebound that was tapped in by LIU Post attacker Lukas Ostermann.
Some notable performances from Saturday's game include junior
Terrell Spencer's three shots on goal. The back line of the Redhawks also played an important role in keeping the game tied up until double overtime. Lastly, senior goalkeeper
Ben Hastings played the entire game and recorded eight saves.
The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team (3-4-3, 0-2-1 ECC) will travel to Sparkhill, N.Y. on Thursday, October 4 to face conference opponent Saint Thomas Aquinas College. Kickoff is slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
