ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan women's tennis team ran its record to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in East Coast Conference play with a 7-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College in a match played at Midtown Tennis Club in Rochester.
The Redhawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead when they swept all three doubles matches. Seniors
Andrea Gallardo and
Nthabi Mogopodi won at second and first singles in straight sets to run the lead to 3-0.
Senior
Marousia Bosch then clinched the victory for Roberts with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Amelie Meyers at third singles. Freshman
Bijisha Shrestha extended the lead with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Ciara Dittrich at fourth singles. Sophomore
Laura Freeman and Junior
Salome Darsalia closed out the scoring with straight set wins.
"This was our best team effort of the season," said head coach
Tom Linhart. "STAC is a talented and well coached team, and we played clean and smart tennis. Our seniors showed excellent leadership today. This is a victory we can build upon."
The Redhawks return to action on Thursday as they host Houghton College for a 4 p.m. match on RWC courts.
