COLCHESTER, Vt. - Seniors
Andrea Gallardo and
Nthabi Mogopodi were double winners as the Redhawks opened the 2018-2019 season with a 5-2 road win over east region opponent St. Michael's College.

The seniors opened the match with a 6-1 win at first doubles. St. Michael's rallied to win at second and third doubles to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead going into singles.Â

After a win at third singles St. Michael's held a 2-0 lead. The Redhawks then slammed the door shut sweeping the remaining five singles matches. Mogopodi defeated Abby Ramsay 6-2, 6-4 at first singles.Â
Bijisha Shrestha evened the score at two apiece with a straight set win at No. 4 singles. Gallardo gave the Redhawks the lead for good with a 6-3, 7-6 win at second singles over Margaret DuPont. Junior
Salome Darsalia sealed the win with a convincing 6-1, 6-4 win at fifth singles over Caroline Sumner. Freshman
Leonie Spreng won her first college match with a 1-6, 6-3, 10-4 win at 6
th singles.

"After getting off to a slow start in doubles play, I was pleased with how the team responded and rallied to dominate the singles play," said head coach
Tom Linhart. "We saw some things we have to work on, but this was a good showing, and there was a great deal to be pleased with in our effort."

The Redhawks return home on Sunday, 9/9/18 to host SUNY Brockport at 2 p.m.
