ALBANY, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan Women's Volleyball team went 1-1 in a tough tri-match versus St. Rose College and Nyack on Saturday. After a loss to St. Rose in the afternoon, the Redhawks bounced back for a five-set thriller victory against Nyack.
The host school swept the Redhawks in the first match, 28-26, 25-18, and 25-22. Junior
Rachel Holmes led the Redhawks with seven kills, three blocks, and 15 digs. Sophomore
Emily Rowlison and freshman Lauren Chase had 10 assists apiece.
The Redhawks bounced back from the loss taking Nyack to five sets and coming out on top. This battle went back-and-forth every set with Roberts winning the first and third sets, 25-16 and 25-18. Nyack responded in the second and fourth sets, 25-22 and 25-15. The final set proved to be all Roberts, though, where they beat the Warriors handily, 15-8.
Holmes continued her hot streak with 17 kills in the match, adding three aces and 13 digs. Rowlison had 10 kills, three blocks, and 23 assists in the game, while junior
Anastasia Smith completed a consistent weekend with six kills and four blocks. Senior libero
Shelby Strausbaugh added 18 digs to her previous 18 in the game before.
The two games put the Redhawks at 1-5 on the season. The team travels to Amherst, N.Y. to take on Daemen College in their first ECC game of the season on Wednesday, September 12. Game-time is set for 7 p.m.
