ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team snapped its seven game losing streak on Friday night with a 53-46 win over East Coast Conference opponent Queens.
Emily Miller recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman
Dimitra Gkizani scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds. And
Taylor Bynoe added 12 points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists to round out the double digit scorers for the Redhawks.
Both teams struggled shooting on the night with each side hitting well under 40-percent of its shots. Roberts was 18-of-60 (30%) from the field while the Knights were 17-of-52 (32.7%). Each team also knocked down just three shots from beyond the arc.
Free throws were a key component in the game with the Redhawks connecting on 14-of-20 from the line. Queens finished the game 9-of-13 from the charity stripe.
The Redhawks built their largest lead of the game in the third quarter when a
Taryn Wilson jumper gave Roberts a 10 point lead. The Redhawks headed into the final quarter with a 43-33 advantage.
Queens cut the lead to just two points with 1:12 left in the game but were unable to score from there on out leading to the 53-46 win for Roberts
Roberts Wesleyan (5-9, 1-3 ECC) will be back in the Voller Athletic Center again on Sunday for a matchup against Molloy. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
