DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team increase their win streak to four games with a victory over ECC opponent Mercy College on Sunday afternoon.
The Redhawks would end the day by going 28-for-58 (48%) from the field, 10-for-22 (46%) from the three-point line, and 4-for-5 (80%) from the charity stripe. The Mavericks ended their team performance going 18-for-55 (33%) from the field and 13-for-15 (88%) from the free throw line.
The Redhawks were lead by junior
Emily Miller's 23-point performance. The Buffalo, N.Y. native went 10-for-16 on the day, which included three made shots from behind the arc. Miller also added eight rebounds and a block on the day. Some other notable performances include 16 points, three rebounds, and four assists from
Sara Nady. Senior
Taylor Bynoe played an important role in giving the Redhawks ample opportunity to possess the ball with her 11 rebounds and seven assists.
The first quarter started as a back and forth battle as the Mavericks answered on almost point scored by the Redhawks. A late steal from Bynoe and a layup in the paint from freshman
Taryn Wilson would place the Redhawks with a seven-point lead at the end of one.
The second quarter would see Roberts play more aggressively than in the first as Wilson had three steals and freshman
Dimitra Gkizani had a block with 7:05 left before the half. Time winded down and the Redhawks would take a nine-point lead going into the half.
Knowing the Mavericks would try everything to get back into the game, the Redhawks eventually went on to lead by 17 towards the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter and Roberts victory was closed out by quick layup from
Sara Nady.
Next up for the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team (8-9, 4-3 ECC) is a two-game home stand that starts with an ECC matchup against the University of the District of Columbia on Friday, January 25. Tip-off for this contest begins at 6 PM.
