WASHINGTON, D.C. – A three game win streak was snapped on Saturday after the Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team fell to the University of the District of Columbia, 2-1.
The Redhawks went into the road game on Saturday with a perfect 2-0 record in the East Coast Conference and had a chance to move up in the standings with a win over UDC. The loss keeps Roberts in fourth place still.
UDC scored both of their goals in the first half just five minutes apart. Vitor Gomes opened up the scoring with a goal in the 32nd minute. The Firebirds netted the second goal of the game to go up 2-0 in the 37th minute off the foot of Danillo Muniz Beserr. The score remained 2-0 through the halftime break.
Alex Perez Vega gave the Redhawks a chance to get back into the game in the second half with a goal in the 60th minute. Perez Vega had another chance at goal again in the 76th minute but his shot was saved by UDC's goalkeeper.
Roberts had the advantage in shots and shots on goal. The Redhawks outshot UDC 14-10 with eight of those on target to just four from the Firebirds.
Next up for Roberts is a home game on Wednesday against New York Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
