ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team fell to Mercy College on Saturday afternoon, 3-1.
The Redhawks and Mavericks traded the first two sets with Mercy taking set one 25-21 and Roberts taking the second by the same score line.
In the third set Mercy used a seven-point run to take a large lead, which they held onto, eventually winning the set 25-17.
Roberts was in position to send the match to a fifth set after claiming a 24-20 lead in the fourth set but the Mavericks staged a four-point run to even the score up at 24-24. Both teams traded points back and forth with Roberts staring at set point three times. With the Redhawks up 27-26 it was the visitors who strung together three straight points to take the set and win the match.
Senior
Anastasia Smith continued her excellent play with a team-high 15 kills. The middle hitter also set a new Roberts Wesleyan program record with 11 aces in the match. The previous record was six aces in a match. Smith also added in three blocks.
Roberts (1-14, 1-2 ECC) will travel to take on Southern New Hampshire next Saturday at 4 p.m.
