Women's Basketball Undefeated in Hampton Inn Classic with OT Win Over Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team went 2-0 in the Hampton Inn Classic after winning 78-75 in an overtime thriller against Saint Leo University. 

Heading into the fourth quarter, Roberts was able to edge out Saint Leo by one point with a jumper from Taryn Wilson after overcoming an 11 point gap with only three seconds remaining in regulation. A foul gave the Lions the opportunity to tie it up where Gina Brierley went 1-for-3 in free throws, sending the game into overtime. 

The teams traded point for point as the first four minutes of overtime progressed, with less than a minute remaining, a three pointer by Sara Nady tied the game up 74-74. Roberts was then able to go 4-for-6 in free throws in the last minute handing them their second on the road win this weekend. 

Roberts opened up the first quarter using a 10-2 run over the Lions to create a commanding lead which gave them the room they needed in the second and third quarter with Saint Leo putting up 39 points in comparison to the Redhawks' 15. The Redhawks were then able to hold the Lions to only 14 points in the fourth quarter, giving them the opportunity they needed to top Saint Leo. 

Sara Nady paced the Redhawks in points with 22 and also added two rebounds and four assists. Emily Miller was able to add another double double, her second within a week, with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The senior also had five assists and two blocks. Taryn Wilson rounded out the trio with 14 points. 

The Redhawks were 28-for-63 (44.4%) from the field, 13-for-25 from beyond the arc, and 9-for-17 (52.9%) for free throws. 

The basketball team will end their on the road tour on January 4th as they take on Cheney University at home.
