ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team closed out the weekend with a 79-70 win over LIU Post on Sunday.
Seniors
Peyton McLaurin and
Jean Toussaint both finished with double-doubles. McLaurin had 16 points and 10 rebounds while Toussaint had 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The winless LIU Post was able to hang around for the first half of the game and only found themselves down by four points at the half.
In the second half the Redhawks still could not pull away from the Pioneers and with 1:28 left in the game Roberts was up just five points. But a Pioneers foul followed by a technical foul help widen the gap, giving Roberts a nine point lead.
The Redhawks struggled with turnovers, giving the ball away 21 times, but was fortunate that LIU Post was only able to capitalize on 15 points from those turnovers.
Free throws were the difference in the win for Roberts as the Redhawks got to the line 40 times and converted on 34 of those attempts. LIU made it to the line 14 times connecting on 10.
Roberts Wesleyan (13-9, 9-5 ECC) currently sits in fourth place in the conference and will travel to UDC and STAC this weekend before hosting the final two games of the regular season next week.
