WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team has now strung together three straight conference wins following a 20 point victory over the University of the District of Columbia on Friday night. The final score was 70-50.
Emily Miller led all scorers with 25 points and also pulled down 12 rebounds to finish off the double-double. Miller added two steals, two blocks, and three assists. Freshman
Dimitra Gkizani had a career best 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field.
The Redhawks and Firebirds kept the score close during the first three quarters of the game but a strong fourth quarter was the difference in the big win for Roberts. The Redhawks outscored UDC 24-10 in the final period of play. The Firebirds were held scoreless for five minutes in the fourth quarter allowing Roberts to go on a 13-0 run.
Roberts did most of the damage inside the three point arc as the Redhawks only took six shots from long range, connecting on four of them. But the Redhawks found success closer to the basket going 26-of-48 (54.2%). UDC shot 31.7-percent from the field.
With only three games left in the regular season Roberts Wesleyan sits in fourth place in the East Coast Conference at 12-13, 8-7 ECC. The Redhawks will head to St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday for a 1 p.m. tip.
