Men's Tennis Falls to Edinboro, 5-2

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Fighting Scots of Edinboro University (Pa.) outgunned the Roberts Wesleyan men's tennis team, 5-2 in a match played at the Westwood Tennis Club in Erie Pa.

Sophomore Guido Janssen and Senior Boyd Blackburn led the way for the Redhawks with wins at first doubles and at the top two singles spots.  The Redhawks, however, could not muster any other points as Edinboro dominated the rest of the singles matches

Blackburn and Janssen opened the scoring with an impressive 6-1 win at first doubles over Kevin Mboko and Julius Schultz.  The Redhawks duo is currently ranked the #4 doubles team in the East Region, while the Edinboro doubles team was ranked #7 in the Atlantic Region.  Edinboro countered with wins at second and third doubles to secure the first point of the match.

The Fighting Scots extended their lead to 2-1 when Nicks Plutarch defeated RWC's Matthew Forrest 6-3, 6-1.  The Redhawks came back to tie the match at 2-2.  Janssen defeated Mateus Santos 6-4, 6-1 at first singles and Blackburn took out Tommy HSU 6-1, 7-6(2) at second singles.  That was all the Redhawks could muster as Edinboro swept the remaining four singles spots.  The deciding point came at 5th singes where Kevin Mboko defeated RWC's Dennis Barlotta 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2.

The 5-3 Redhawks return home this Saturday March 2nd when they host Millersville (PA) University at 5pm at the Midtown Athetic Center.
