ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Seven different players scored as the Roberts Wesleyan women's lacrosse team
defeated Kutztown University, 16-15, on Saturday afternoon on the Roberts Turf.
Roberts improved to 6-1 on the year and Kutztown evened out at 1-1 on the season.
The Bears opened up the scoring as they went on an early 3-0 run to start but Roberts answered with
the next five goals to take a 5-3 lead with 14:53 remaining in the half. Kutztown tied the game at five off
back-to-back goals from Erin Vaughan Ware. For the remainder of the half it was back-and-forth for
both teams until Kutztown took a two-goal lead going into the half, 8-6.
Kutztown opened up the second half on two goals in less than five minutes to go up, 10-6 (25:37). Emily
Tomei got the Redhawks on the board in the second half as she found the back of the net to make it,
10-7. Roberts then used a 4-0 run to take a 11-10 lead before another Bears free position goal tied the
game. The Bears took a 15-12 (7:28) lead off a 3-0 run but the three-goal lead wouldn't hold as the Redhawks
scored the next four goals to close out the contest.
Emily Tomei of Roberts finished the day with four goals and an assist (five points) while teammate Emily
Knight tallied five dimes and two goals.
Jessica Giancursio registered four points (three goals and an
assist). Both
Megan Burnham and
Taylor Nathan each scored a pair of goals.
Natalie Arieno claimed the win in goal as she made five saves and improved to 1-0 on the season.
The Redhawks are back home Tuesday at 4 p.m. against Edinboro University.
