Andrew Freeman rallied from a set down to win at 6
th singles and clinch a victory for the RWC Redhawks over Jefferson University. The match, played at the Legacy Education and Tennis Complex in Philadelphia,PA, started with the Redhawks taking a 1-0 lead after doubles play. Redhawks
Guido Janssen and
Boyd Blackburn won at first doubles 6-4 over Dan Trifoi and Odissey Kavak.
Harmeet Luthra and
Matthew Forrest sealed the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Marko Janjusic and Joao Pedro.
Janssen then extended the Redhawks lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 4-1(ret) win at second singles over Pedro. Jefferson tied the match at 2-2 when Janjusic won in straight sets over Forrest at 3
rd singles and Dan Trifoi edged Blackburn 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 at 1
st singles. Junior
Dennis Barlotta gave the Redhawks the lead with a 7-5,6-3 win over Joe Sisson at 5
th singles. The Rams came back to tie the match at 3-3 when Odissey Kavak defeated Luthra in a three setter at 4
th singles.
This set the stage for the deciding match at 6th singles. Cesar Solis won the first set over Freeman 6-4. Freeman came storming back to win the set in a tiebreaker 7-6(4). Solis took a 2-0 lead in games in the deciding third set, but that was all he could get against the determined and steady Freeman. The Senior from Churchville, NY then won the next six games to seal the victory. "This was a very exciting and well played college match. The Rams fought hard and are well coached. This was a total team effort on our part. Everyone contributed.'', commented Coach Linhart.
The 7-7 Redhawks will stay in Philadelphia and take on the Devils of Usciences in a 3:30pm match at the Penn Tennis Center on the University of Pennsylvania campus.
