Men's Tennis Falls to Queens on Senior Day

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Queens College Knights blanked the RWC Redhawks Men's Tennis team 7-0 in a match played Saturday on the RWC courts. 

The Knights swept the doubles portion of the match in three very close matches.  QC's Cosme Jubera and Lucas Demuth defeated RWC's Boyd Blackburn and Guido Jansen 6-4 at first singles.  Kareem Rashad and Richard Sec beat Harmeet Luthra and Matthew Forrest by the same score at second doubles.  Finally, RWC's  3rd doubles team  of Dennis Barlotta and Andrew Freeman lost 7-6(3) to Mariano Biblioni and Nick Valos.
 
Queens went on to win all six singles matches in straight sets except for 1st singles.  There RWC's Guido Janssen took Cosme Jubera, the ECC's preseason choice for Player fo the Year, to three sets. Jubera took the first set, 6-2, Janssen rallied to win the second set 6-4, but Jubera then prevailed 13-11 in a 3rd set tiebreaker.
 
The match was played on RWC's Senior Day.  Prior to the math the team's three seniors were honored for their contributions to the team.  Joshua Moore, a 4 year player from Brooklyn, NY, was recognized as a co-captain.  He has a 3.50 GPA and will graduate with a degree in Criminal justice.  Andrew Freeman a two year transfer from MC and resident of North Chili, NY, has a 3.46 GPA and will graduate with a degree in Biochemistry.  Finally, co-captain Boyd Blackburn, a transfer from Lee University (TN) and native of Sydney Australia, was recognized.  Blackburn has a 3.50 GPA and will graduate with a degree in Business Administration. "We are very proud of these young men and they represent us well both on and off the court.", commented Coach Linhart.
 
The 11-8 Redhawks next host Onondaga Community College on Tuesday at 4pm on the RWC courts.
