ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's lacrosse team clinched a spot in the East Coast Conference postseason for the first time in program history on Saturday with a 13-5 victory over Molloy College.
The win cemented the Redhawks in third place in the conference standings with a 3-2 ECC record while Molloy dropped to 2-3. The top four teams in the conference earn a spot into postseason play.
Sophomore
Hunter Lemieux led the Redhawks with five goals and one assist.
Michael Pierog and
Cody Menzies each added a pair of goals.
After an even 2-2 first quarter, Roberts dominated the second quarter scoring five straight goals to take an 8-3 lead. Molloy snuck in a goal right before the end of the half to leave the score at 8-4 at the midway break.
In the second half the Redhawks defense stifled the Lions only allowing one goal while Roberts added on another five goals.
Pat Hynes made 11 saves in net for Roberts including 10 of those in the second half alone.
Roberts Wesleyan (7-5, 3-2 ECC) will travel to Mercyhurst on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. matchup before returning home for the final regular season game against NYIT.
