FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan men's tennis team fell to Queens College, 4-1 in the semifinals of the East Coast Conference Championships. It was the first time in program history that the Redhawks advanced to conference post season play.
The Redhawks got off to a fantastic start in the doubles matches winning at the No. 1 spot and No.3 spot to take the doubles point.
Boyd Blackburn and
Guido Janssen defeated Cosme Jubera and Lucas Demuth at first doubles, 6-2. At third doubles it was
Andrew Freeman and
Dennis Barlotta coming up with the 6-4 win.
In singles play it was all Queens though as the Knights claimed wins at spots four, six, one and five to get the match victory and move on to the championships. The closest match of the day came at No. 2 singles where Kareem Rashad defeated Blackburn in the first set 7-6 before having the match go unfinished due to Queens already earning the victory.
Roberts finished the season 12-11.
